The University of Texas, Dallas has a eLearning portal meant for students and faculty members or instructors. What the eLearning basically do is to provide facilities for students and faculty members to do their work and their studies. This is a portal where they can handle their tasks such as grading, classes arrangement, assignments, student email and other learning materials.
After logging into the eLearning system, the student can check for their courses on the course list. They can also see a column on the page that display the latest institutional news meant for students and the faculty members. Students can manage their notifications and also set up profiles by filling in their personal details such as name, photo and contact number. Everyday a student will receive one email daily to inform them of the classes that they are taking for the day. They get to view their latest assignment grades, updates or check out the updates about their courses and classes.
For faculty members, they too have similar tools to facilitate them in teaching. For example, faculty members can use this as a place where they get or send out latest information on their courses and classes. They can also upload teaching materials, post up assignments, update student grades and many other teaching work to help them communicate with their students via the eLearning system.
Students can access the eLearning system after they have received their login ID. They can access it immediately once their semester starts. From the eLearning system, they can access many places including their emails, computing systems and their courses. Students and faculty members alike are encourage to update their passwords frequently as their passwords will expire every six months. If they have failed to do so or lost their passwords, they can always contact the Information Resources Department to get help.
The eLearning system is meant to make teaching and learning online easy and flexible for both students and teaching staffs. For them, their responsibility is to keep their user login safe by practicing changing of passwords frequently and avoid leaving their login details exposed in public places. Not only is there a risk of having their information stolen, they can post a threat to the university eLearning system as well.
The university have prepared an FAQ., video tutorials and some documentation to help both students and faculty staffs to get around the eLearning system so that they can maximize their use of the system.
